Privacy Policy

Voyamap is a private travel journal, built so your trips stay yours. Your data lives only on your devices and in your own private iCloud. We — the developer, ParalaX Engineering — never receive, see, or store it. There are no accounts, no advertising, and no analytics SDKs.

What Voyamap stores, and where

Trips, stops, places, routes, notes, tags, photo references, and workout and route information are stored locally on your device and synced through your personal private iCloud (CloudKit) account, which only you can access. This information is never sent to the developer. Nothing in Voyamap runs on a server we operate — there is none.

Device permissions

• Location (including background): used on your device to detect the places you stop during a trip, through Apple's visit monitoring and significant-change updates — never continuous GPS tracking. Your location history stays on your device and in your private iCloud. To name the places you stop, the exact coordinates of a detected stop — never a continuous track, never your identity — are sent to the Wikimedia Foundation's Wikidata service, unless you turn that lookup off; see "Third-party services" below.
• Photo Library: used to attach photos you took to the matching stop, and, when you ask for it, to rebuild a past trip from the dates and locations of your photos. Photos are read on-device; we never upload them.
• Apple Health (workouts & routes): used to add walks, runs, and rides to your trips. Health data is read on-device (read-only), and is never collected by us.
• Notifications: trip-start reminders and "you've arrived at a notable place" alerts are generated on your device. No push server is involved.

Third-party services

These services receive requests directly from your device, only to answer them in real time. None of them receives an account, a device identifier, or your trip data, and none is operated by us.

• Apple iCloud & Apple Maps: Voyamap uses Apple's CloudKit to sync your data across your own devices, and Apple Maps to display maps, look up nearby places, plan routes between stops, and find the time zone of a location. Your use of these is governed by Apple's privacy policy.
• Wikidata & Wikipedia (Wikimedia Foundation): to name a stop and attach place information, the app sends the exact coordinates of a detected stop to Wikidata, and downloads Wikipedia article summaries and lead images for the articles it attaches. When the optional arrival alert is on (default on), this lookup can also run in the background when you arrive somewhere during a trip. Turn off "Use Wikipedia to improve stop relevance" (Settings → Recording, on each device) and no stop coordinates leave the device for Wikimedia at all: stops are named from Apple Maps only, arrival alerts stop, and Wikipedia is contacted only for the summary and image of articles you already attached, or when you search Wikipedia by name, which sends the text you typed. Governed by the Wikimedia Foundation's privacy policy.
• Unsplash (optional): when you choose a trip cover photo from Unsplash, your search text is sent to Unsplash. This is entirely optional and governed by Unsplash's privacy policy.

Backups you export

A .voyamap backup contains your full trip data — stops, routes, notes, tags, attachments, and references to your photos and workouts. It is written on your device and goes only where you choose to save or share it. We never receive it.

Data collection & tracking

Voyamap collects no personal data and performs no tracking. There are no third-party analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting frameworks of any kind. Apple's App Store may share anonymized crash reports with us only if you opted into sharing analytics with developers in your iOS settings.

Children

Voyamap is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from anyone.

Deleting your data

There is no account to delete. Deleting a trip removes it from your devices and your iCloud; deleting the app and its iCloud data (Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Storage → Voyamap) removes everything.
